Las declaraciones del señor Richard Stallman son de las que hay que tener en cuenta, para bien o para mal. Así que cuando comenta sobre el asunto SCO (en ZDNet), no hay que perdérselo. La cosa va de la disquisición GNU/Linux versus Linux, diciendo que Linux es sólo el kernel, y que el sistema completo, que es GNU/Linux, como su nombre indica (GNU is Not Unix) no tiene nada que ver con Unix(TM).

Pero cuando viene lo bueno es al final del artículo:
However, I can address the broader issue of such situations. In a community of over half a million developers, we can hardly expect that there will never be plagiarism. But it is no disaster; we discard that material and move on. If there is material in Linux that was contributed without legal authorization, the Linux developers will learn what it is and replace it. SCO cannot use its copyrights, or its contracts with specific parties, to suppress the lawful contributions of thousands of others. Linux itself is no longer essential: the GNU system became popular in conjunction with Linux, but today it also runs with two BSD kernels and the GNU kernel. Our community cannot be defeated by this.

Ricardito siempre levantando ampollas... ¿De verdad, cree que esa es la mejor contribución que se puede hacer por el software libre? ¿Es que no bloquearon precisamente a los BSD al comienzo de los 90? ¿Es que se cree que su sistema GNU es inmune a ese tipo de maniobras? Tsk, tsk. |
